Merdan helps Shaye with her robe.
Candidate's Barracks
The dome-shaped ceiling presents a vibrant mural of Weyrlife with beautiful scenes depicting hatchings, wing practice, weyrlings and daily routines of the residents. Dark oak bunks pile three high across two walls with built-in cubicles with the cots for the candidate's items. Veins of rose quartz mingle with pearly white and trapped green beryl to form a flawless floor. Several light pine fold-tables and benches squeeze in a corner to offer workspace, temporary classroom and leisurely spot to chat over klah in the rare moments of free time. The small hearth provides for some light along with the hanging quartz baskets for glows. A lingering scent of sweetsand, oil, klah and sweat merge to the familiar candidate smell.
You see Apollo, Asherah, Myrrdin, Enygma, Oogle, Raving, Titaynia, Vincent, Lois, Rogue, Denfix, and Jester here.
Shaye is here.

South Corridor
Merdan continues to baste along the seams, leaving a gap at the top for his arms. He takes the spare material next to him and cuts two longer strips, basting them together into two tubes, somewhat larger at one end, leaving a finger length unbasted on either end. He looks up at Shaye and smiles "Oh, I hadn't noticed you there Shaye."
Shaye chuckles and waves from her cot "Hello, I was being quiet, wouldn't blame you if you hadn't noticed." she adds, giggling as blue and green glide in to take up spots on her stomach and chest. "How's yer robe commin'?" she asks, peering over from the cot where she's stuck under flit bodies.
Merdan shruggs and says, "It will be done shortly." He looks at the other candidate and asks "What about yours?"
Shaye shrugs and peers towards her hook near her cot with her robe on it, in one piece at least "Its...useable." is all she says before chuckling, "Kinda useable anyways, it'll work...if I can't find a better one, though I think it'll do just fine." she says, beaming.
Merdan looks at the other candidate and asks "Would you like me to look it over? Perhaps tailor it a bit more to your figure?" He looks at her and then at the robe, and the somewhat finished work in his own hands "Since I am already sewing right now, it is no great bother. Put it on and let me see if I can pin it up a bit better."
Shaye chruckles and shrugs, "It would be nice if I didn't look bad in it." she says, grinning as she shoos green and blue offher and onto her cot and tehn stands and slips the robe on. On her, it kinda makes her look fat, her shoulders look a little too broad and it looks plain wierd all together, no matter how long it took her to sew it up.
Merdan nods "Just take it in a bit here and a bit there, and it should be fine. Let me get my pins out for you." He reaches in the small leather kit and takes out a puffed ball covered with little wooden and silvered specks "Here, turn around and let me get the back first. That's where most women make the big mistake. Leaving it too big or too small for their bottom." he walks over to her and waits for her to comply, shoving pins in his mouth as he does.
Shaye ahs and okays as she turns to let Merdan at the back of her robe, edging close enough for him to be able to reach, pin and adjust it...
Merdan softly says "Excuse my fingers, my touch is to see the form beneath, not any other reason." He moves his hands up and checks the fit of the robe, then begins to deftly insert pins here and there. "Ok, if you will turn around, I will make sure it looks good in front. It's better if I open up a closure in the back for you. We can get some closure fastening and put it there so it is easy to remove and put back on, if you like."
Shaye nodnods "Its alright," she chuckles "Oh, do anything to it that might make it look a bit better." she says, grinning "I'm no expert on clothes. Unless its matching colors," she says wryly.
Merdan chuckles softly as he consider's Shaye's figure and the robe she made "You did alright, but it just needs a bit taken in here, and perhaps I can let it out in some other places, if you have not trimmed back the selvage." He puts one pin in each shoulder and then takes them out. I can do something nice with this, but you will have to take it off first, so I can fix up the areas I have already checked. It will be a bit tight getting it over your head, but go slow, and you won't get picked by any of the pins."
Shaye shakes her head "No, I haven't done much to it," she chuckles "Except sew it together." she giggles, peering at the robe. She then carefully slips out of the robe, and hands it silently to Merdan as she gives an appreciative grin to him and then sits on the floor near his feet to watch "So what /were/ you afore you came here?" she asks, just idly wondering.
Merdan looks at Shaye and says "Isn't it obvious?" He takes the robe turning it inside out and begins to deftly open the seam of the bodice, and then re-pins it. Then he bunches up the shoulders and pins them in a somewhat florette look "I think that would look quite nice." he says, more to himself than Shaye. He looks at her and pauses.
Shaye chuckles as she watches him..."It sure is now." she says, watching him take the seams out easily. "A weaver, thats about all I know though." she giggles "Oh, think it would?" she asks, pausing as she peers up at Merdan, watching him a mommetn "THe only things I can make look good on me are pants and tunics, and not often either." she chuckles, shrugging. But weavers make people look great in anything, they're cool.
Merdan nods "Journeyman Weaver Merdan, at your service." And then goes to the stitching, making short work of the areas he pinned "I once taught a class on precisely this. Tailoring outfits that do not fit well. I had several hold folk from Xanadu Hall, and a herder journeywoman. They just wanted to know how to improve their outfits. If you watched what I did, you will know what you need to do to make things fit better. Think you could do the same now that you have seen how easily it is done?"
Shaye hmms as she watches "Thanks, Merdan." she chuckles, not using his full title, even if she has or had a lower rank than him before she was a candidate."I think I could." she says, pondering as she watches.
Merdan finishes his stitching and tosses the robe at Shaye "Go on, try it on." Was that a tease? Nah, he is too serious for that.
Shaye catches the robe and stands up again and pulls it on. "And how's it look now?" she asks, peering as she grins at him "You're the expert afterall."
Merdan smiles, but makes no initial comment "It looks like it fits now. It's only a candidate robe afterall." He takes up his own work, and begins to attach the sleaves to the shoulders "It isn't supposed to look special, just ... white and functional." He stops a moment "When I get that closure tape, I will open the back up so you can pull it apart to get out of it more easily." He continues his own work, not speaking again.
Shaye chuckles adn pulls it off again and tosses it just right so it lands on the hook by her cot "Thank you," she says, beaming at the weaver and trundling back to her cot to sit on.
Merdan finishes the initial work for his robe and sets it aside "How about we go get a snack from the kitchens, Shaye?"
Shaye chuckles and nodnods "Yes, can we? I'm starved." and cheeps from her flits are cut off "And you guys ate, so you stay here." she adds, standing and nodding appreciatively.
